About me

I have been living in Portugal for 23 years and now I am in the process of moving to Spain. I totally disagree with an old-fashioned term of the native speaker. I was definitely influenced by Portuguese realities where 20 per cent of the natives were illiterare in 1980 and some 10 per cent ten years later. Besides, in today's world of globalization and constant migration, the place of birth has less and less meaning in favour of a competent speaker due to his / her education as well as his/her environment that take over its importance.

For those still not convinced, there is a question: what is the native language of the person born into a family: she is Portuguese and he is French, but they live in Spain and their children have been educated at an English school. Perhaps this is an exaggerated example but there are more and more similar cases.

Qualifications

Ma in Iberian Studies (Warsaw University) in 1978,  Ma Course in Comparative Linguistics (Lisbon University)2001, Proficiency in English (Cambridge Syndicate) in 1984.

Experience

26 years of teaching languages (only 5 years, full time), 17 years of experience in translation and consecutive interpretation on part-time and freelance basis: courts of law, sports clubs, various enterprises, ministries, Parliament, theatres, film labs and various types of documents, basically into the four principal languages mentioned.
